Harold O. Maxfield, Jr. is a partner and member of the Board of Directors with Cavitch.

Hal has substantial experience in all aspects of sophisticated corporate and real estate business practices. His real estate experience includes all issues related to real estate transactions including purchases, sales, financing, zoning, construction, environmental, development, joint ventures, and like-kind exchanges. He also routinely represents banks and borrowers in financing transactions, landlords and tenants in office, industrial and retail transactions, and owners in all aspects of real estate law.

His corporate experience includes general contract negotiation and preparation, tax planning, mergers, acquisitions, and related transactions. He represents both public and privately-held companies, as well as individuals on a wide variety of legal issues ranging from choice of entity to more intricate and complex matters including financing, venture capital equity investment, management buy-outs, executive compensation, and corporate succession planning.

He is an active member in the Ohio Land Title Association, the Cleveland Title Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. He is past chairman of the Cleveland Bar’s Real Estate Section. In 2004, 2005 and 2006, Hal was named as an Ohio Super Lawyer by Law & Politics.

He is also frequently sought after as a guest speaker on a variety of real estate and business topics including
Negotiating a Business Acquisition,Ohio Landlord Tenant Law” and “Basic Corporate Law in Ohio” for organizations such as the National Business Institute and Cleveland Bar Association. For more than a decade, Hal has been co-editor of the Ohio Transaction Guide, published by Matthew Bender & Co. and Rabkin & Johnson Current Legal Forms.

He attained his Juris Doctor degree (cum laude) from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1986. While he was in law school, he was a member of the Cleveland-Marshall College Law Review. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1983. He joined Cavitch
in 1986.
